Crypto transaction fees

So in the past I used to purchase bitcoin, and then exchange for XMR, then the high fees sending BTC to exchange got ridiculous.
On a friends advice, i bought litecoin and exchanged  for XMR which was much more reasonable, is this still my best option?
Nothing worse than changing, sending to market only to realize youve come up short and have to purchase minimum amount of crypto and restart the process!
