Buy any coin from wherever you want, use changenow.io to exchange it for XMR. You don't have to sign up, there is no KYC, just start the trade and it's done.

FarmerJohn's advice above is a good option.
Personally I just YOLO'd most of my BTC savings into XMR via Bisq... I may regret that decision but fuck it... Hail Monero!
(p.s. I do not advice Bisq for beginners, it's complex p2p desktop software and runs over tor by default, which makes it error prone and slow too. however on the plus side it's fully custodial and private by default and also has good XMR/BTC liquidity)
