Seems like it's OK(ish) this morning though, I managed to get an order in TM finally after a few failed attempts yesterday.

Yeah man I agree. I do not think there has been a single time that I have tried to login to Tor where I have made it past the captcha on the first attempt.

Nearly all requests on the servers are handled in under a second. The additional time is all due to network delays. onion sites require six hops through random peoples tor relays, any of which could be having problems or being overloaded from DOS attacks on other markets.
Best thing to do is have three different URLs bookmarked and use the fastest. Also use the "new circuit/ new identity" button a lot - this abandons the current path and tries a new one.
