I'm trying to work with monero without using centralised exchanges. I finally got a local monero node going, though I have yet to route all the traffic over tor (it's going over a VPN). I found the blockchain would download very slowly and crash near the end if it was stored on a rotating hard drive so I had to buy another ssd, though I suppose a USB drive would do. Btrfs with compression zstd:6 seems to shave about 15GB off the 145GB and constantly growing file.
So I want to use defi, but it seems that wallets like metamask or the wallet integrated into Brave browser dont support xmr. What's a secure but not excessively taxed way of swapping xmr to Ethereum? I suppose mostly I just want to convert it to a stablecoin like DAI to store it, based on the notion that ones savings should be 50% cash, 30% shares, 10% precious metals, and no more than 10% crypto (I mean if I won lotto I might aim for something like that).
Anyone a bit wiser about these kinds of things?
