As most of you are probably aware, the IRD is requesting all info from NZ cryptocurrency exchange sites. Do they care at all about people buying, or is it just those selling? If you aren't selling bitcoin, are they going to question anything?
Im assuming it's only for taxation purposes, so if you haven't sold or traded and have no realised gains then you have nothing to worry about. Bloody taxman always looking for an extra buck
They're asking for btc addresses as well

Very interesting video, except the 5G belief is a bit out-there for me. The legal stuff has been on my mind recently and I'd been searching but not exactly sure what I was looking for. It is great to find someone has already been down that rabbit hole and is teaching what they learned.
If you earn income though buying and selling, this is what they are looking for. It is based on your intention at purchase time to generate income from the later sale. So people that use DNMs to acquire products are not relevent to IRD and I would expect privacy law would prohibit IRD from giving away your private transaction history to other government departments.

Geezus..not sure of this guy is off his rocker and or if his right. These won't stand in NZ tho, also, he makes claims on vaccinations and the content of the vaccines, but where is his "evidence"? lol

I was also interested in this, kind of think this should be illegal as its a dragnet approach, but it is what it is...
From the IRDs website:
"
In most cases, the amounts you get from selling, trading or exchanging cryptoassets are taxable (this includes when you exchange one type of cryptoasset for another).
You may have to pay tax because you’re:
- acquiring cryptoassets for the purpose of disposal (for example to sell or exchange)
- trading in cryptoassets
- using cryptoassets for a profit-making scheme.
"
So it sounds like you only need to pay tax when you sell/dispose of crypto.
Fuck knows how your meant to pay tax using crypto tho, like say for example you brought BTC and sold for ETH and made a profit, will the govt accept ETH as tax payment (doubt it).
Here is an bit of copy from one of the exchange emails that was sent out:
"
we've always been clear in our privacy policy that we never pass any user data to third parties, the exception to this is legal requests from government agencies.
The IRD has requested us to provide info on ALL of our customers' activity up to 31 March 2020. All crypto companies in New Zealand have to comply.
We understand that this will not be a popular announcement, however, there are no grounds on which we can refuse this request.
The IRD has published some clear guidance on how to calculate your crypto tax obligations
"
The are operating in an old paradigm of royalty and peasants. Their rules can't keep up with technology. What happens when you have 10 btc and you receive 10 bcash for free due to a blockchain fork? What do the centuries old tax laws say about this situation?
